Scottish Qualifications Authority

The paper will discuss the new generation of qualifications which are to assess the newly introduced &#8216,Curriculum for Excellence&#8217,. This new curriculum increases teacher responsibility in order to achieve a better development of general capacities and skills for learning, work and life. The paper will show how a range of school-based assessment and moderation will be used to reconcile teacher-assessment and the consistent application of standards. Examples will be given of types of assessment already in use for the assessment in some subjects, of Core Skills, and in work-oriented courses and in the new Scottish Baccalaureate.
