The advantages of the implementation of test methods in teaching Azerbaijani History

In 2004-2006, it was conducted a monitoring to investigate the impact on the quality of pupils’, knowledge and capacities of test exams on the history of Azerbaijan in the secondary schools. This also allowed exploring the problems in teaching methods and the difficulties which pupils experience in studying. The monitoring was conducted in the 17 secondary schools of Baku and the results were summarized. Prior to the monitoring it was conducted pre-research on the problem afterward experimental and control classes in the secondary schools were selected. It was supposed to hold the test exams in the experimental classes and the traditional or oral exams in the control classes. At the beginning of the monitoring, the test exercises for the experimental and questionnaires for the control classes were prepared according to the teaching program on Azerbaijani History. According to the teaching program these sections were determined:1. Relations amongst courses2. Azerbaijan in Ancient era3. Azerbaijan in III-XV centuries4. Azerbaijan in XVI-XVIII centuries5. Azerbaijan in the second part of XVII and XVIII centuries6. Azerbaijan in the first part of XIX century7. Azerbaijan in the second part of XIX –, XX centuries8. The National Republic of Azerbaijan9. Soviet Azerbaijan in 1920-1945 10. Soviet Republic in 1991-2005 The monitoring was conducted amongst the final classes (9th and 11th). The three year monitoring encompassed 1158 pupils of 9th classes and 1032 pupils of 11th classes. In 9th classes 595 pupils were experimental, 563 pupils were control and in the 11th classes 525 pupils were experimental, 504 pupils were control. The results and mistakes of both experimental and control classes are analyzed and summarized comprehensively and reflected in graphic:
